How the repayment estimator works
It adds the total cost of finance to the amount you receive to find the total repayable, then spreads that evenly across the term. Monthly repayments are the total divided by the number of months. Weekly repayments use 52 weeks a year, fortnightly use 26, and the daily figure uses roughly 21.7 business days a month, which is how many short-term cash flow facilities collect.
Because there is no interest rate in the maths, you can compare offers that are priced in completely different ways. One lender might quote a simple total, another an establishment fee plus interest, a third a figure for each dollar borrowed. Turn each into a total cost, enter it here, and you are comparing like with like.
Reading the results
The weekly figure is the headline because it lines up with how most owners think about wages and bills. Ask yourself whether your quietest week could carry it comfortably. The cost per $1 received is a quick way to compare offers of different sizes: lower is cheaper for the same term. The share of monthly turnover shows how much of your average deposits the repayment would absorb.
Shorter terms versus longer terms
Shortening the term usually lowers the total cost but raises each repayment. Lengthening it eases the weekly pinch but means paying for longer. Neither is automatically better. Match the term to what the money is doing: stock that sells in eight weeks should not be funded over three years, and equipment that earns for five years should not be squeezed into six months. Our guide to matching the loan term to its purpose walks through it.
Before you sign anything
- Confirm the total amount repayable and every fee, including any for early payout.
- Check the repayment frequency and the day it comes out of your account.
- Run your quietest month through the cash flow gap calculator with the repayment included.
- Ask what happens if you want to pay the loan out early.
If the numbers stack up and you want a real quote, start a 60-second enquiry. There is no credit check to enquire, and a real person looks at your situation.
Questions about this calculator
Why does the estimator ask for the total cost instead of an interest rate?
Because the total cost is what actually leaves your business. Business loans can include establishment fees, account fees and interest calculated in different ways, so a headline rate rarely tells the full story. Every lender must be able to tell you the total amount repayable, and that is the number to plug in here.
Where do I find the total cost of finance?
Look in the offer or loan schedule for the total amount repayable and subtract the amount you will receive. If fees are charged separately, add them in. If you do not have an offer yet, try a few scenarios to see how sensitive your repayments are to cost and term.
Why are daily repayments shown on business days?
Many short-term cash flow loans collect repayments each business day, Monday to Friday. Seeing the daily figure next to weekly and monthly ones makes it easier to compare offers that use different schedules.
What does the share of turnover figure tell me?
It shows how much of your average monthly deposits would go to repayments. The lower that share, the more room the business has for wages, stock and surprises. There is no magic number, but a figure that leaves your account thin in quiet months is a warning sign.
Is anything I enter saved?
No. The estimator runs entirely in your browser and nothing is stored or sent. If you choose to enquire, you enter your details separately on the enquiry form.
